Egg Retrieval Moved Forward

I had all intentions of being a lot better about documenting more regularly throughout these days of injections for this IVF cycle, but we have been soo busy & with the 4th of July holiday falling right smack in the middle of treatment, I just haven’t found time. I was finally able to find a few minutes to give you guys an update on how things have been since starting FSH over a week ago.

Sunday the 29th of June was the day I started my injections. I was instructed to take 100mg of Gonal F (FSH) 2 times a day for five days. All of this went perfectly well. Big thanks to cell phone reminders keeping me on track. On Thursday we had our first ultrasound since starting injections. We had 13 follicles on the right and 15 follicles on the left ranging in sizes from 10-14mm. Once you follicles start measuring over 14mm it’s time to start Ganirelix which is an additional injection that you take 1 time a day to stop ovulation from occurring. I was instructed to continue FSH for the next five days, same dosage as before & take one dose (prefilled syringe) of Ganirelix at 2:30pm each day. I’ve been taking my FSH at 6am and 6pm each day.

So far I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve been prescribed Doxycycline to help prevent OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome) and I’ve been taking in a ton of electrolytes. I have some minor bruising on my abdomen from the injections, but not terrible. The Ganirelix shots are a little more painful, but definitely tolerable. I constantly feel full & I can feel that my ovaries are pretty full, but other than that I have no signs on symptoms of OHSS. The only side effect I’ve gotten, and I’m not even sure if this is from the meds or not is a really nasty couple of cold sores. I’ve gotten cold sores all my life since about 5th grade, but the last few years they’ve really subsided. I used to get about two a year, now I get maybe one if that. The downside was that I started feeling it on Sunday and wasn’t sure if it was safe to take my anti-viral (Valtrex) or not with all of the other meds I’m on. I take a huge dose, two 1 gram pills twice a day for two days, it really knocks them down fast. Luckily I called the doc in the morning and I was cleared to take them!

Today was my follow up ultrasound.  My follicles had grown significantly, the largest measuring over 20mm. They decided that the retrieval needed to be moved forward to Wednesday!  So tonight we will trigger at 11pm and start Dostinex at 9PM.  Dostinex helps alleviate the bloating and cramping from the stim meds. Tomorrow night we will stay over night in Rockford to make sure that we are there with plenty of time.  I can't believe that we are finally to this point! On April 11th when we decided to move forward with IVF and cancel our IUI, I never thought this day would get here, especially as fast as it has!

Please note that I will be absent from blogging for the next couple weeks as we find our way through this journey.  I appreciate, from the bottom of my heart, the love and support that we have gotten since starting this journey.  You are all so amazing & I want to sincerely thank you all for all of your sweet words of encouragement!  Let's do this!

Friday Favorites

a girl can dream....
Happy 4th & Happy Friday everyone!  Double whammy today!

Today is officially 1 WEEK until our target egg retrieval!  Can you believe how fast it has gone by??

Favorite Moment:
A couple again this week... getting my tattoo finished yesterday was great.  So in love with it! Also had a follow up ultra sound yesterday to measure and count the follicles after taking FSH for the last 5 days.  So far I have 28 follicles measuring between 10 & 16.  I started Ganirelix which is another injection I do daily to prevent ovulation & I'm continuing 100mg of Gonal F 2x a day until Monday.  Let's just say my ovaries are already overloaded.  My next ultra sound is Monday & then another on Wednesday.  Thursday night we will be staying up in Rockford with aspiration (egg retrieval) scheduled for Friday.  I won't have a Friday Favorites Post next week with everything going on.

Least Favorite Moment:
Mother Nature is definitely a bitch sometimes.  Our concrete was supposed to be poured Monday or Tuesday but due to torrential downpours, we ended up having to pump out the water from the foundation, or cancel our plans to build a house and just go with a really dirty swimming pool instead.

this was me leaving work Wednesday and off Thursday & Friday!

June Monthly Favorites

Make Me Up Mia
Thank you to the lovely Mia at Make Me Up Mia for hosting!

One. Supergoop! SPF 50 Sunscreen
This stuff is great for those long, hot days in the sun.  I used this stuff on the hottest, sunniest day of the year so far which fell the same day as the Freedom Run, I was outside literally all day, and I didn't get sun burnt at all.  I still got a nice tan, but I was not miserable like I would've been if I hadn't worn such a high SPF.

I recently switched from It’s a 10! over to this product and I’m loving it!  I will undoubtedly continue to use It’s a 10!, but for now this is just a change for the summer.  It’s got all kinds of benefits, most importantly a heat protector & detangler!
Three.  smartwater
I’ve talked about SmartWater before, but for as much as I’ve been drinking it to help prevent OHSS (Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome) while stiming for IVF, I consider myself an expert on the stuff now.  I love it.  It’s so crisp and clean tasting.  The bonus for treatment of OHSS is the electrolytes which also add to the taste.  Also love the caps!
I bought two of these because they are just adorable and perfect for when you really don’t need to carry your entire purse around with you.  There are so many little pockets, card holders, and pouches in these little bags, it’s by far, one of my favorite wristlets I’ve found.  I loved the turquoise and the fuscia, and both looked great with my turquoise ring.

This brand of popcorn is just amazing.  There are like 3 ingredients, popcorn, salt, and sunflower oil, some are cheddar some are plain, some are kettle.  Seriously such a yummy and healthy snack!  Perfect for sitting poolside.

I bought this black maxi dress at CNJ Style and I’ve been living in it.  It was $20 and she’s got all sorts of colors, turquoise, coral, grey, black, and pink.  I am contemplating going back and getting a least another color or two.  I’ve been pairing it with a scarf, vest, or jean jacket so far.  Very versatile and oh-so comfy!

sorry for the poor quality work bathroom selfie
If your hair is anything like mine, then it gets to a certain length and just seems to stop growing.  I’ve been growing my hair for like 5 years and it never really gets much past my shoulders.  I really wanted this splurge purchase Michael Van Clarke 3”’ More Inches, but I just couldn’t get myself to spend that kind of money so I took to the world of Pinterest and found Not Your Mother Way to Grow Sulfate Free Shampoo & Conditioner.  So far I love it.  I’ve only had it for about a week so I’ll be sure to review it after the bottles are gone!

Eight.  Wilfred
Have any of you watched Wilfred over the last 4 years?  If you have then I hope you are as lost and confused and as ready for answers as I am.  Wilfred is in its final season and I’m sad that it’s over, but I’ll be happy when I figure out what the F has been going on all this time!
